What should I do first? Which social networking websites should I have? How do I get found by customers online? How do I approach potential customers? How can I get the word out about my shop without endlessly spamming? These are all questions we often get asked by customers!
Getting customers online can be a tedious and confusing task. You have tried everything you can think off and read every article on the internet, but you still don’t have enough sales to treat yourself to a pack of McVities biscuits as a reward for the tiring, long hours you have committed to the business, and quite frankly you’re on the verge of giving up.
If this sounds like you, STOP as you’re not alone! Many start-up businesses go through this phrase and it’s the ones who are determined to see it through that make their businesses a success. So if you’re left with more questions than answers on how to gain more customers online, try the following Libero Net tip!
Okay, so we might not be the first ones to discover this ‘tip’ but oh my giddy aunt, it has worked for us and the clients to which we have suggested it too.
What is HootSuite?
Your time is important and it should be valued, especially when running your own business. You know by now that being active online is a must, but finding time in the day to post to your social following can be daunting. Then you find space in your busy schedule to post, but what do you post about? What will your customers find engaging and interesting? Will they unfollow you just from sheer lack of interest? This is where HootSuite comes in.
HootSuite is a social media management system which enables people to manage their brands social media accounts. The systems user interface takes the form of a dashboard and supports social network integrations for Twitter, Facebook (including Facebook pages), LinkedIn, Google + and many more. HootSuite is a free online tool, however if you want to sync more than five social networking accounts you will need to go premium. But for what we’re going to show you, you will only need the basic account!
Finding Potential Customers Using HootSuite
So you have your HootSuite account all set up and all your social accounts are all synced – you’re even scheduling posts on the gone on your phone app. You’ve come to terms that your business won’t be a hit over night, but what you might not have done is set specific HootSuite searches. It sounds silly and you’re probably wondering how this will benefit you, well hold your horses and let me explain.
If you have a Twitter, Google + or Facebook account synced to your HootSuite dashboard you can monitor searches. Just go on the social networking account you want to search and search a keyword or phrase that you believe your customers will be writing about. Libero Net is monitoring a number of searches including ‘PHP help’ ‘Warrington design’ and ‘Manchester SEO’.
(It might be worth doing some keyword research first for this and finding out what is trending in a specific area)
Another example might be that you own a jewellery line, selling hand-crafted accessories to order. While monitoring searches you may come across somebody needing accessories to dress up their outfit for a big weekend. This is your golden opportunity, to suggest your brand to this customer. You may simply write something such as ‘check out our latest collection, we can make it in a range of colours to suite your outfit.’ Even if they don’t buy your product, chances are they will remember you for future purchases and recommendations.
1. Login into your HootSuite and click the (+) sign under the ‘compose message’ section on the top left of the dashboard
2. Click ‘add stream’ again under the (+) sign at the top of the dashboard
3. Click the account you want to add a stream too (Facebook, Twitter, Google +)
4. You will see a keyword option; here enter your words and phrases you would like to track
5. These keywords or phrases will be added into one search. You can add more streams, up to ten on each tab!
6. Monitor these at least once a week, daily if possible and reply to the ones you deem appropriate
Remember to keep monitoring your searches and to keep interacting with your customers on a personal level. Oh, and not forgetting to post regular updates! It will be hard to master at first, but once you get the hang of interacting with clients, people will begin to trust and buy into your products. Now go and hop to it, soon you will have a stockroom full of McVities biscuits!
