Last week myself and Mark (lead developer at Libero Net) attended a Seminar at the Fir Grove Hotel in Warrington. The seminar was about SEO and using social media for marketing.
The speaker was Jan Klin, and although the seminar was mainly for newbies to SEO & social media marketing, I thought I would take the opportunity to pass on some of the tips that were mentioned. Many of which we use at Libero Net on a daily basis.0
There are many differing opinions when it comes to SEO & social media marketing, you may hear things that you don’t completely agree with but it doesn’t mean they are necessarily wrong. It’s often about finding the things that work best for you and your business.
Which tools and tips bring you the most traffic and which do you find the easiest to use.
Anyway here are a few of the highlights from the seminar that I think you may find helpful:
- Writing good blog posts – Do your keyword research first!
When writing a blog post or advising a client on posting the starting point is making sure you are going to write about something that people are searching for.
The best place to start is ‘keyword research’
And a great tool for this is ‘Google Keyword External Tool‘
Another good tool for this is ‘Keyword Eye‘. They have a free basic membership where you can use the tool to do some keyword research.
2. Posting on Facebook – Edgerank Algorithm
Ever wonder why certain stories show up at the top of your facebook news feed? This is because of the Edgerank algorithm, that ranks posts by a number of factors – such as recency and affinity (or relationship with the person making the post) this gives the Edge Weight.
So you can utilise this in your social media strategy, and when deciding on how, what and when to post on your facebook page.
Facebook can be fantastic for business but some people feel it is more at the top of the sales funnel. It is more useful for branding & brand awareness. for generating interest and awareness in your brand more than selling products outright.
Its important to remember that Facebook is a social media platform so people are mostly on there for fun & social aspect rather than wanting to be sold to. But when used in the right way it can be great for driving your brand and the viral effect of this can spread your brand faster than advertising.
3. Social Media backlinks – Turn them from NoFollow to DoFollow Links and get some juice from them
Some of you will know that backlinks from all the top social media platforms such as facebook, twitter & linked in, are NoFollow, meaning no link juice or link vote is passed back to your site.
Well there is a way to actually get some link juice by sending the link via a shortened link system such as bit.ly
4. Join Linked in Groups for Awareness
Again using Linked in can be great for brand awareness and networking. A good tip for this is to join relevant groups in your industry or sector, and converse with others, being an authority on your subject is always something that Google likes!
5. Checking your backlink profile
Its important to know how your link profile looks, here are a couple of tools that are great for this:
