Social Media In The Past
Pen Pals. Believe it or not not that long ago having a pen pal was the new thing in town. It kept the post offices busy and people on their toes waiting for a reply that could take days to reach them.
People would use phones a lot more back then as well. I am sure most can remember the misses on the phone for hours talking to her family in another country… If you don’t recall.. ask your pocket.. I am sure its still suffering from that age!
They would also talk and interact with each other considerably more. Those where the days of going out sitting in a coffee shop and just talking about anything (most likely about the person next to you).
Social Media Today
As sad as it may sound, surveys show that people interacting face to face or talking like they use to has declined dramatically since social media came in the scene. You see it everyday around you.. Everywhere you look there is a noticeable absence of people just talking to each other.. instead they are head down on a “smartphone” staring at a screen for hours on end.
It makes me sad to see young people wasting away on a screen without any real understanding of the world around them. We all know and understand that social media have brought a lot of good in the world as well. There is no denying that and I am not trying to diminish it.
Get to know the world around you tho before you delve deeper into the world of virtual dots and pixels. Have fun with your mates both online & offline. Don’t forget to live.
